This summer has been one like no other. How exactly, I have yet to understand and assimilate fully. It’s like coming out of an adventure which is at once so new and so gripping that while you’re in it, it takes all you have to ride the wave and only in reaching the shore do you begin to sense the extent of what took place.
I recently learned that our awareness is an indication of how alive we are. For example, if we use a torch we can only see so far but if we make the light brighter we can see a whole lot more of what’s around us. The more we see, the more aware of the world we become and the more alive we feel. This is one of the factors that made this experience so novel for me. I felt it more fully, I witnessed its grandness in a way I never have before.
Over the last month I visited three different cities which in their own way made me remember aspects of myself I had forgotten as well as resuscitating parts of my life that I thought were over. What struck me was that it was almost as if my life was existing in tandem on several levels. Different phases of my life were continuing at the same time. What is that theory about us existing in many dimensions? Also, who knew I had been paying attention in my physics class.
This may sound a bit out there, it sounded a bit like that to me initially but then I realised that when we raise our awareness, we learn to grow beyond our physical senses and in doing so, we either arrive at a whole new place or behold the world in an exciting, never before experienced way.
As usual, Hafiz was onto this only about seven hundred years ago when he wrote:
My spring eyes will still warm faces and awake verdant earths in your soul.
