The cost of more

April 7, 2019 by afshansa 3 Comments

Today in my Yoga class I had two epiphanies. One of them, I wanted to share with you. The master trainer for this class is one who is doing what he truly loves. I came in to find him talking about harnessing energy. What ensued was an affirmation of a sneaky feeling I’ve had for some time.

Those of you who follow my blog have heard me say this many times over. Despite our physical aspect we are essentially energy beings. Once we start seeing ourselves as such, so much of our physical/ mental exhaustion starts making sense. So, in this world of ‘more is better’, where are we depleting our energy reserves and equally importantly, how we do protect and nourish ourselves?

One of the key things that relaxes us during a holiday is getting to step out of our regular routines. Doing the same thing over and over again makes us numb. When we spend time in nature, meditate or do something that we enjoy, we nourish our energy source. Engaging in activities that hold no excitement for us deplete us. Spending time with loved ones invigorates us. Being in the company of negative people; victims and fear mongers drains us. There is a pretty clear pattern emerging.

We live in a world where constant strategy is required to stay on top of our increasingly busy lives, therefore we end up spending more time in our heads than in our actual lives. Guess what just getting through a regular day does to our energy reserve? Imagine the added impact on us when we get stuck in our stories about the past or our worries about the future, or both.

This brings me to the hunch I spoke of earlier. Any time we become disconnected; lost in our thoughts or removed from the present moment we begin to deplete ourselves of our actual life force. For instance, the opposite of depression is not happiness, it is vitality.

As we gain more awareness of our energy body, we begin to realise that our power stems from being continually connected to the life force that runs through us all; other living beings and nature. We are part of a greater whole. Experiencing life through our physical senses and from within our bodies, as opposed to the stories we tell ourselves in our minds, anchors us into the freshness and newness of the present moment. This eternal moment is where we drew our first breath and in revisiting it, we open ourselves to the boundless regeneration and replenishment that awaits us there.

Loved this! And if I’m allowed to indulge my cynical acerbic wit for a second… god the people one could name and shame!! Those who live off the light of people’s souls, and the innocent dreams of toddlers. But alas, as we aspire for that higher ground, I’ll let that list slide.
Thanks for this reminder; it is as always, most timely and pertinent.
